Should I Get Concrete or Plastic Septic Tank?

The septic tank on your property is one of the most important systems your home has. It makes sure wastewater is drawn away from your home so that you and your family are always protected and healthy. If you’re ever dealing with septic tank issues, you should get on the phone with Septic Blue of Raleigh right away – this isn’t something you should put off.

Unfortunately, your septic tank won’t last forever. While they do last a very long time, there will come a time where it needs replacing. If you’re trying to determine which kind of septic tank is right for you, here are the two options you have to choose between:

1.  Plastic Septic Tanks

Plastic septic tanks are much more affordable than concrete ones since the material used is much cheaper. They are also a lot easier for our team to install since they are much more lightweight and they require less setup. Another reason Septic Blue of Raleigh recommends plastic is that it’s a lot less prone to cracks and leaks and they tend to be a lot more sanitary and hygienic than a concrete tank will be.

The downside to plastic septic tanks is that they aren’t as sturdy or long-lasting as concrete. Plastic is more susceptible to warping and environmental damage since it’s easier to move around and not as solid as concrete.

2.  Concrete Septic Tanks

Concrete septic tanks are known for being extremely durable and long-lasting. It takes a lot to wear down concrete, so as long as you are calling Septic Blue of Raleigh for regular maintenance, you won’t have to worry about a concrete septic tank for a while. They are also very resilient to environmental damage since it takes a lot to move cement. Another reason why people choose concrete over plastic septic tanks is that they are never affected by any weight that is above them. They can pretty much handle anything!

On the other hand, concrete septic tanks are going to be a much bigger investment, and they require a much more intricate install. Concrete is a very heavy material, so our team will need to bring our heavy equipment. It’s not as quick of an install as plastic would be, but it will last you much longer. Lastly, concrete is much more prone to cracking and corroding as time goes on. While it will last you a while, you may need more regular repairs or maintenance.

Which One is Right for You?

If you ask any of the team members at Septic Blue of Raleigh, we typically recommend concrete septic tanks simply based on the fact that they last so much longer. While the investment is much bigger upfront, the long-term benefits will be well worth it.

Are you looking for septic tank replacement or septic tank repair? Is it finally time to upgrade your septic tanks? Are you deciding between a plastic septic tank or a concrete septic tank?
